2. Waipatiki Beach, Hawkes Bay

This is the kind of North Island campground that a family would return to, year after year. Not only is it nestled away in a somewhat secretive beach spot, but there’s also plenty of space for activities and things to keep everyone entertained. The beach makes for great swimming and there’s a stream for the little ones to paddle in. Park up your motorhome, camper or caravan and enjoy the beautiful east coast. 3. Matai Bay Campsite

When you’re talking North Island campgrounds, there’s non more special than Matai Bay. The camping itself is basic and simplistic with non-powered sites and cold showers. But the sheltered bay is utterly beautiful with clear waters and pōhutukawa trees. A quintessential North Island place with suits families, boaties and everyone in between. 4. Tāwharanui campground at Tāwharanui Regional Park

Tāwharanui Regional Park is on the Tāwharanui Peninsula near Matakana and Omaha. An hour and 15-minutes drive from Auckland and you’re in paradise. Here you’ll find white sand and plenty of coastline making this a great location for campervan travel. The Tāwharanui campground is tucked behind sand dunes on the north eastern coast. It’s a large camping area and you can walk to the beach through the sand dunes. There are designated camping areas for tents and separate area’s for vehicle based camping. 5. Paekakariki Holiday Park, Kapiti Coast

Small coastal townships are the perfect getaway destination. Especially when they’re in close proximity to a major city like this one! Paekakariki is a 45-minute drive from Wellington City.
