Are you ready to tackle the adventure capital of the world? Queenstown NZ is the spot for adrenaline activities, winter sports, incredible food and wine and awe-inspiring scenery. 1. Lake Wakatipu

Lake Wakatipu is the core of Queenstown with the township, roads and dramatic mountains wrapping around its shores. Take in the incredible lake views from the town centre or walk around one of the surrounding tracks. Right in town, on the lake’s edge is the perfect spot to enjoy your Fish and Chips or Ferg Burger and watch the sunset.

2. The Remarkables

The Remarkables are hard to miss, making a lasting impression as you arrive in Queenstown NZ. They are a mountain range and skifield, attracting large numbers of keen skiers and snowboarders in winter. Visiting in summer? You can drive up The Remarkables road for some breathtaking views!

3. Ben Lomond Summit

The Ben Lomond Track is a demanding hike, but for those able, willing, and searching for an incredible photo spot – it’s a good bet. You’re rewarded with stunning views overlooking Queenstown and surrounding mountains. The track starts on the Skyline Access road or the Tiki Trail.

4. Moke Lake

Moke Lake is a picturesque and small lake between Queenstown and Glenorchy. With a somewhat rural feel, it’s hard to believe you’re just 20 minutes out of Queenstown. This is a great location for catching the sunrise or sunset. You can even camp out here!

5. Queenstown Hill

Queenstown Hill / Te Tapu-nui is a small mountain in the centre of Queenstown NZ, and is dotted with houses and has a fantastic walking track. The walk up Queenstown Hill is suitable for the whole family and is a great choice if you’ve only got time for one scenic walk. Photo opportunities at the summit are endless, with views of The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Lake Wakatipu and the Kawarau River.

6. Arrowtown

Chasing those pretty Autumn colours, nooks and crannies and historic buildings? Then Arrowtown is your spot! Just a 20-minute drive from Queenstown NZ, it’s the perfect go-to for a late brunch followed by a walk along the Arrow River.

7. Skyline Gondola

For that quintessential Queenstown view, head up the Skyline Gondola in the heart of Queenstown NZ. This is the place to snap a photo of the town, The Remarkables, Lake Wakatipu and beyond. Enjoy the Gondola ride and stick around for sunset and dinner at Skyline, or hike the challenging Tiki Trail for those rewarding views!

8. Glenorchy

Glenorchy is a small town at the end of Lake Wakatipu, 50 minutes down the road from Queenstown. There are many ways to explore this area. You could hire a rental car and enjoy a leisurely day trip, or opt for a guided tour with a local company. Glenorchy is a stunning place surrounded by mountains. Make sure you check out the Glenorchy wharf and red shed!

9. Crown Range

The Crown Range is the connecting road between Queenstown and Wanaka and is totally unique. Its high altitude (1,121 metres!) means it’s both utterly scenic and at times a challenging drive. Be sure to check weather conditions and be prepared before hitting the road, especially in winter months.

10. Coronet Peak

Coronet Peak is easily accessible from town, making it a popular choice for skiing in winter or Sunday drives in summer. Head up Coronet Peak just before sunset for some incredible views. It’s also a great vantage point for photographing the Southern Lights / Aurora Australis!

11. Queenstown-Glenorchy Road

The road to Glenorchy is just as much of a destination as the town itself. A 45km stretch of road that hugs the shores of Lake Wakatipu and twists and turns through beech forest and alongside cliff faces. Be sure to make lots of stops along the way. Bennetts Bluff is a popular lookout with fantastic photo opportunities, as well as pull-overs near the lakeside.

12. Onsen Hot Pools

Your trip to Queenstown NZ wouldn’t be complete without an Instagram post from Onsen Hot Pools. Imagine soaking in a private, cedar lined hot pool, looking out on to views of the Shotover River. Onsen Hot Pools have lots of great options including nighttime soaks and massages. Be mindful, they book out well in advance so it pays to be prepared!
