Wanaka is a town full of incredible hikes, impressive ski fields and breathtaking scenery. You can’t help but feel like you’re on holiday when you’re here. Grab your phone, have a read of the below and head to Wanaka for some Insta-worthy locations!

1. Roys Peak

Ever growing in popularity, Roys Peak is a fantastic vantage point with views of not only Lake Wanaka but Mount Aspiring as well. The best snaps are taken from just below the summit, so grab your hiking boots. The Roys Peak Track is a 5-6 hour return walk, zigzagging up the side of Mount Roy. It’s a steep incline with stunning views along the way.

4. Treble Cone

Treble Cone is the largest ski resort in the South Island, so there’s plenty of room to play in the snow. Fresh powder with views of Wanaka – it doesn’t get much better. If you’re visiting in the summer months, you can always go for a drive up the Mt Aspiring road to check out some of those tasty views.

5. Isthmus Peak

Isthmus Peak is Roys Peaks quieter brother, with equally stunning views on the way up the steep track. Sweeping views of both Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea make for some truly fantastic, very ‘Wanaka’ shots. Get really into it and hike up for sunrise, it will be worth it. Make sure you plan your trip and take plenty of water!

9. Rippon Vineyard & Winery

When in Central Otago, a visit to a winery is essential. Rippon is the oldest vineyard in Wanaka, a solid choice if you’ve only got time to visit one in the area. Do some wine tasting, roam around the vines and chat to the passionate team. Don’t forget to admire that incredible view.
